  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000145 to IRIX 5.2

  18.        This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX 5.2
  19.        Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system are
  20.        included for reference.

  22.           +o SGI Bug #236383 A Motif menu bar contains cascade
  23.             buttons whose activation causes the display of pulldown
  24.             menus. These pulldown menus are implemented using the
  25.             RowColumn widget. Windows in X are clipped by their
  26.             parent. Pulldown menus should not be clipped so they
  27.             need a parent window that is a child of the root
  28.             window. The Motif library creates a MenuShell wrapper
  29.             around the pulldown menu. In order not to create too
  30.             many of these wrappers, the wrapper is usually shared
  31.             amongst all the pulldowns associated with a menu bar.
  32.             If one of the pulldown menus is destroyed, some
  33.             internal state information may not be cleaned up
  34.             properly. If this incorrect state is referenced, a core
  35.             dump of the application can occur. This patch sets this
  36.             errant state back to zero to prevent the core dump.
  37.             This patch is from the Open Software Foundation and is
  38.             referred to by them as CR5550.

  54.        you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
  55.        default. After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed in
  56.        this patch, determine the patches that meet your specific
  57.        needs.

  74.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  75.        software product.  It must be installed from the miniroot.
  76.        Follow the instructions in your _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n
  77.        _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot form of the software
  78.        installation tools.

  80.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  82.          1.  At the Inst>prompt, type

  94.          4.  You may find that two patches have been marked as
  95.              incompatible.  If this occurs, you must deselect one
  96.              of the patches.

  102.          5.  After completing the installation process, exit the
  103.              _i_n_s_t program by typing

  108.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
  109.        would for any other software subsystem.  The removal process
  110.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  111.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.
